As a Maui-based live wedding painter, I get to experience so many beautiful celebrations across the island, and this King Kamehameha Golf Club wedding for Ashley and Matt was one of those days that was overflowing with fun, love, and personality from beginning to end.
Ashley and Matt are from Arizona and share a love for travel, Disney, and adventure. After four years of dating, they finally decided to tie the knot, and they knew they wanted to get married on Maui. When Ashley found me on Instagram and reached out about painting their wedding, I was so excited to be part of their day. As lovers of art and creativity themselves, incorporating live wedding painting into their celebration was a meaningful way for them to bring that love of art into their wedding day.
And what a day it was!

While Ashley and Matt were getting ready in their suites, I arrived early alongside the florists from Petite Maui. I usually find myself at the ceremony space as the florists are setting up, and this is when I begin laying down the blueprint and background of my painting composition.
The ceremony took place on the King Kamehameha Golf Club’s Kahalawai Terrace, overlooking some absolutely incredible views of Haleakalā and Maui’s north and south shores. The manicured green lawn drops away down the slopes toward the south shore, creating that incredible feeling of being on top of the world.
As the florists finished the flower arch and the chairs were set up, I began painting the scene Ashley and Matt had chosen: their dip kiss immediately following their ceremony exit.
One of my favorite parts of live wedding painting is when guests begin arriving and notice me working. At this point, they’re usually seeing just the rough beginnings of the painting. It’s so fun watching their faces light up as they realize they’ll be able to watch the artwork evolve throughout the day.

Ashley and Matt’s ceremony was intimate and personal. Matt looked sharp in a black suit, while Ashley wore an elegant white gown. And their dip kiss? Absolutely flawless.
It was one of those iconic moments that felt perfect to capture on canvas.
Once the ceremony was over, I packed up my gear and moved to the cocktail hour so I could continue painting while the family and group portraits were happening.

The cocktail hour and reception were held outside in the courtyard of the iconic King Kamehameha Golf Club clubhouse. The clubhouse itself has a fascinating architectural history, having been designed by renowned 20th-century architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
As guests made their way down after photos, they had plenty to keep them entertained. There were giant yard games, DJ Dan’s beats, drinks at the bar, and, of course, me live painting!
I was perched on an elevated walkway, which made it especially fun for guests to stop by and watch the painting come to life. They did throughout the whole reception!
And that’s one of the things I love most about live wedding painting: the painting itself becomes part of the entertainment. Guests can peek over my shoulder, ask questions, watch familiar faces appear on the canvas, and then come back later to see how much the painting has changed.

Ashley and Matt really wanted their guests to feel the joy of their wedding day, and they absolutely delivered on that vision. The atmosphere was so fun and celebratory, with dancing, glow sticks, yard games, and plenty of entertainment.
The early June weather was beautiful, with a clear day, a warm evening, and that gorgeous lingering Maui light stretching into sunset.
One of my favorite moments happened during the reception when the bridesmaids and groomsmen came up to admire the painting together. The bridesmaids looked beautiful in their blue dresses, and the groomsmen’s ties had migrated onto their heads like headbands. That gives you a pretty good idea of the atmosphere on the dance floor!
They were having the best time pointing out different elements of the painting, especially the people who had found themselves included in the scene.
At the end of the night, after heartfelt speeches, dinner, and dancing, Ashley and Matt finally got their grand reveal.
Guests gathered around to take pictures, and because the seated guests were included in the painting, many of them started finding themselves in the artwork and pointing themselves out.
I absolutely love this part.
A wedding photographer captures the day beautifully, but there is something completely different about seeing your wedding day transformed into a piece of fine art right in front of you. Instead of waiting weeks or months to receive your photographs, you get this moment of immediate gratification, a tangible representation of the celebration you just lived.
For Ashley and Matt, their live wedding painting became more than a portrait of the two of them. It captured the people and energy that made their wedding so personal.
And that, to me, is the magic of live wedding painting.

Hearing about my clients experience with my live wedding painting services after the fact fills me with so much joy! Here is what Ashley & Matt had to say about their experience having me at their wedding:
“We feel incredibly fortunate to have had Jules as our wedding painter. From the moment we met her, Jules’s kindness and compassion made a lasting impression. She skillfully captured every moment of our special day with such grace and warmth. Her artistry not only preserved our memories but also reflected her genuine care for us and our story. Jules’s presence was a calming influence, and her dedication to creating something beautiful for us was truly heartwarming. We cannot recommend Jules highly enough for anyone looking to capture their wedding day in a uniquely artistic and compassionate way.”
